After a beautiful couple days in the mountains near Mbale we are back to work. For 30,000 shillings - about $20, we had a small cabin with a mattress with the indentation already in place where we could lay and a pillow that helped us sit up while we slept. We also had our own latrine - pit toilet and a hot / cold running shower depending on if they had lit a fire under the pot holding the water before it was pumped to the shower. There are 3 water falls that we hiked to Sipi Falls is the largest at 100 meters and then another we could walk behind and the third we could get near so we were sprayed and wet. It is beautiful but very muddy and sometimes the hiking made me, Barb, very nervous. Our second hike was from nowhere to nowhere but the end result was beautiful.
Today we are back at the knitting which is going well. The blind people have invited John and me to play a game of goal ball with them. I think this is like dodgeball but they will blindfold us and then use a ball with a bell inside. Sounds rather painful so we will see if this actually happens.
John has been asked by Els at Amacet to teach a couple Bible lessons at Harmony school as an example to the teachers of how to engage the students more in the lesson. He can explain this better so I will leave it to him ot give more information on that. He will start this tomorrow, Thursday. Your prayers will be helpful since the teachers at Harmony are somewhat resentful of being told how to do this although their method is not successful.

Sounds like the hike was an experience you'll never forget! Chris is done with SERVE tomorrow, so the empty nest will no longer be empty--we sure enjoyed it though! Lar and I actually came home from Indy a few days early b/c we missed our house---never in 29 years has that ever happened! We've been enjoying some great weather around here and doing lots of day bike trips! I worked at City on a Hill cleaning bathrooms this morning--I had to make sure I was on a different floor than Chris b/c I didn't want him to know I was there. I have been amazed at how faithful some of the kids have been showing up to work every Wed. We've had an average of about 6-8 of them each week (mostly 8th graders). Sounds like a good break, and really "comfortable" bed. Kind of like that crappy old one I had in our other apartment.
Dodgeball with blind people, that just sounds cruel, though it sounds like you might get schooled in this version.
Good luck with the teaching Dad...I guess teachers all over the world don't like being told they are doing something wrong. :)

A bed that already has an indent? Sounds like sitting on a fat person's couch to me (not so comfortable).
Blindfolded dodgeball against blind people seems to be unfairly schewed towards their advantage considering their heightened sense of hearing. Protect the nose!!! Trust me, going through life with a crooked nose isn't all that great.
I hope the teaching goes well for you, Dad. You should teach the teachers how to engage their students through the use of technology. Okay, so maybe that isn't what they're too worried about right now.

Barb, I agree, the hike would have made me a little nervous as well though the waterfalls sound beautiful. With an indented mattress at least you couldn't roll out of bed, guess that would be a blessing, right??? Jacquie and I have been making calls for reception halls, since Jacquie's uncle has a membership at Egypt Valley the kids and I have an apt. to look at the banquet room. Sounds promising but we will see.It has been enjoyable to read about your work. Bob and I have been praying for you daily.
